Fun with Stitched Portraits with Leonie Fraser Tuesday, 24 March 2020
March 24 @ 10:00 am - 2:30 pm$75
Date: Tuesday, 24 March, 2020.
Time: 9:30 setup for a 10:00am start until 2:30pm
Focus: Machine Applique, Thread painting and Quilting embellishment techniques
Have some fun turning your own or a loved one’s face into a quilted portrait! Your finished work can become a wall hanging or a centre for a larger quilt or even part of an album quilt. You can approach this in many ways – as a caricature, or a serious portrait made as complex and detailed as you wish, or as a textile art. The embellishments you choose will add character to your piece as you have fun creating your artwork.
Level of skill required for this workshop: All levels of experience with free motion quilting.
Please note: Before the class, you will need to print a photo in black and white or greyscale onto an A3 sheet of paper. It is good if you have cropped the picture back to remove unnecessary details around the face. If you are enlarging your photo on a photocopier, don’t worry if it becomes blurry as it gets larger – we will deal with this in the workshop.
This workshop will develop the following skills:
- Setting up your sewing machine for raw-edge applique and thread painting
- Transferring images to fabric
- Transferring applique pieces to the fabric
- Techniques to enhance your picture with thread work
- Choice of thread
- Starting and finishing threads
A materials list will be provided on registration.
