Thread Painting with Leonie Fraser 17 March 2020
March 17 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm$70
Date: Tuesday, 17 March, 2020.
Time: 9:30 setup for a 10:00am start until 2:00pm
Focus: Quilting embellishment techniques
Thread painting can add pizzazz and a bit of glamour to your work by enhancing images or patterns in your material. Thread painting can be added to a variety of fabrics – pre-printed panels, patterned fabric, pieced blocks for example. In this class you will be using embroidery threads to add embellishment to a photo you have printed on fabric.
Level of skill required for this workshop: All levels of experience with free motion quilting.
Please note: Before the class, you will need to print a photo onto an A4 sheet of fabric using an inkjet printer, following the manufacturer’s instructions. The shop carries packets of printable fabric sheets. Think about your picture and its degree of difficulty in using it for thread work – multiple faces in a family photo in an A4 format would be very difficult (I would think twice before trying it) but a butterfly or flower would be relatively easy to achieve. The guide words for choosing would be bold and simple.
You can print to the edge for this task, but you will neaten the edges to use the block you create in a project.
This workshop will develop the following skills:
- Setting up your sewing machine for thread painting
- Techniques for transferring images to fabric ready for thread painting
- Different techniques to enhance your picture with thread work
- Choice of thread for thread painting
- Starting and finishing threads
A materials list will be provided on registration.
